In the rolling Tuscan hills, in the beautiful area of Palaia, about 5 km from the town, we find this fascinating complex dating back to the thirteenth century which still retains traces of its past.
The first sources on the building date back to 980, in 1120 it became a monastery of the Carthusian monks of Calci and in 1209 it was granted to Otto IV as a fiefdom to the bishops of Lucca.

Alica Castle is a place full of energy given by those who lived there. It is a real estate complex of rare charm, dating back to the thirteenth century. which keeps intact the traces of its past of the alternation of different cultures and functions. During the 1300s it passed to the Gambacorti family but, during the Pisa insurrection, it was occupied and sacked by the Florentine army. In the following period the complex became the seat of a convent suppressed in 1809 from which the residential use of the entire complex began.
From 2001 to 2003 a conservative restoration was carried out by the architect Alfredo Signorini of Pisa, the architect Adriano Calza of Bologna, under the direction of the Superintendence of Pisa in the figure of the architect Cianfaloni.

In particular, CASA KENZIA is placed on the first floor of the building with an entrance and directly overlooking the main square, where you can spend relaxing moments and enjoying a breathtaking view of the surrounding hills.

Palaia had a period of prosperity from which the PIEVE DI SAN MARTINO XIII century was built (1279, church of Sant'Andrea from 1200. In the surroundings we find the village of Montefoscoli, where the museum of peasant civilization is located, and the Temple of Minerva Medica, known as a place of esotericism.
The medieval character of Palaia is home to a fortress from which you can enjoy a breathtaking 360° view. Palaia also boasts Ghibelline walls and the two Romanesque churches of Santa Maria and Sant'Andrea. 
The hilly surroundings are an ideal setting for trekking, biking or horseriding. A marked network of paths crosses through little known historic hamlet such as Alica, San Gervasio and Colleoli.
Palaia is crossed not only by the Wine Route of the Pisan Hills but it’s also an important white truffle area, celebrated every year in October with a market fair taking place in the cozy village of Forcoli once a medieval castle. In Forcoli it’s possible to find primary services such as post office, bank, grocery stores, shops, schools and public transport to reach Pontedera or Pisa.

Die ersten Aufzeichnungen über das Gebäude stammen aus dem Jahr 980, im Jahr 1120 wurde es ein Kloster der Kartäusermönche von Calci und im Jahr 1209 wurde es Otto IV. als Lehen der Bischöfe von Lucca übergeben.

Das Schloss von Alica ist ein Ort voller Energie, die von den Menschen stammt, die dort gelebt haben. Es handelt sich um ein Anwesen von seltener Ausstrahlung aus dem 13. Jahrhundert, das die Spuren seiner wechselnden Kulturen und Funktionen bis heute bewahrt hat. Im Laufe des 14. Jahrhunderts ging es an die Familie Gambacorti über, wurde aber während des Aufstands von Pisa von der florentinischen Armee besetzt und geplündert. In späteren Zeiten wurde das Anwesen zum Sitz eines Klosters, das 1809 aufgelöst wurde, und von dort aus begann die Wohnnutzung des gesamten Komplexes.
Von 2001 bis 2003 wurde eine konservatorische Restaurierung des Gebäudes durchgeführt, die von dem Architekten Alfredo Signorini aus Pisa und dem Architekten Adriano Calza aus Bologna unter der Leitung der Denkmalbehörde von Pisa, vertreten durch den Architekten Cianfaloni, durchgeführt wurde.

CASA KENZIA befindet sich im ersten Stock des Gebäudes mit einem Eingang und Blick direkt auf den Hauptplatz, wo Sie entspannende Momente genießen können, während Sie einen atemberaubenden Blick auf die umliegenden Hügel haben. Die Wohnung erstreckt sich über eine Fläche von 56 Quadratmetern und besteht aus einem großen offenen Raum mit offener Küche, Wohnbereich, Schlafzimmer und einem Badezimmer ohne Fenster.

In der Umgebung befindet sich das Dorf Montefoscoli, wo das Museum für ländliche Kultur seinen Sitz hat, und der Tempel der Medizinischen Minerva, der als esoterischer Ort bekannt ist.
Der mittelalterliche Charakter von Palaia zeigt sich in seiner Burg, von der aus man eine atemberaubende Aussicht genießen kann, und in dem Dorf, das immer noch einen Abschnitt der ghibellinischen Mauerkrone bewahrt.

Palaia liegt auch an der Weinstraße der Pisaner Hügel, ist aber auch für den hochwertigen und berühmten Weißen Trüffel bekannt.
In der Nähe befindet sich auch Forcoli, wo jedes Jahr in der ehemaligen mittelalterlichen Burg die Trüffelmesse stattfindet und wo alle notwendigen Dienstleistungen wie Post, Banken, Geschäfte, Lebensmittelgeschäfte, Schulen und öffentliche Verkehrsmittel nach Pontedera und Pisa zu finden sind.
